Anti-discrimination Student Movement coordinator Hasnat Abdullah has been named the convener of a four-strong central committee formed by the platform.

Coordinator Sarjis Alam announced the panel at a media briefing at the Central Shaheed Minar in Dhaka at 7:30pm on Tuesday.

Arif Sohel will be the member secretary of the committee, with Abdul Hannan Masud the chief organiser and Umama Fatima the spokesperson.

Sarjis said the group will work to organise the participants of the Movement in all educational institutions and districts.

The committee has been formed based on the opinion of the majority of central 158 coordinators, according to him.

"Before Aug 5, we could not set up a structure in all educational institutions or districts. But the battle isn't over yet. So we need a structure in all educational institutions in each district and Upazila of Bangladesh.”

Abdul Quader, another coordinator, said the Movement has long been rumoured to emerge as a political party, but this committee will not take any such form.

He said the Movement turned into a political organisation after the quota reform protest of 2018. But this banner will not do so. As before, it will serve as an inclusive and national platform with the participation of people of all faiths.

The committee will also reconstitute the 158-strong committee of the Movement, coordinator Abu Baker Majumder said, adding that Gen Z and youth will be included in the committee countrywide.
