Temperatures are likely to edge up from Monday, the last day of the Eid-ul-Fitr holiday, although parts of the country could see showers, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).
The Met Office said conditions across most of the country are likely to remain mainly dry, even as many people begin returning to work at the end of the holiday.
Meteorologist AKM Nazmul Haque said on Monday that one or two places in the Rangpur, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions could see temporary gusty winds, lightning and rain or thundershowers.
The possibility of rain is mainly limited to some border areas of the three divisions, according to him.
“Overall, even if the sky remains cloudy, the weather is more likely to stay mainly dry. However, temperatures may rise, so the heat will feel more intense.”
Nazmul added that some rainfall was possible in around a quarter of the border areas in the three divisions on Monday.
The Met Office noted that the season’s normal low-pressure system was positioned over the South Bay of Bengal, while its extended part lay over India's West Bengal and adjoining areas.
Over the past 24 hours, the country’s highest temperature was recorded in Teknaf at 33.2 degrees Celsius, while the lowest was recorded in Dinajpur at 16.2 degrees Celsius.
The BMD also recorded 8mm of rainfall in Sylhet and 4mm in Dinajpur during the same period.
According to the forecast, daytime temperatures across the country may rise by 1 to 2 degrees Celsius on Monday, while night temperatures may increase slightly.
In its five-day outlook, the Met Office said that on Tuesday, one or two places in the Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions may see temporary gusty winds, lightning and rain or thundershowers.
Elsewhere, the weather is likely to remain mainly dry with partly cloudy skies. Both day and night temperatures may rise by 1 to 2 degrees Celsius.
For Wednesday, the BMD forecast similar conditions in parts of the Dhaka, Mymensingh, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions, with temperatures likely to increase slightly again.
On Thursday and Friday, one or two places in the Rangpur Division may experience temporary gusty or squally winds, lightning and rain or thundershowers, while the rest of the country is expected to remain mainly dry with partly cloudy skies.
Temperatures during the day and night are likely to remain nearly unchanged on those two days.
The BMD said the likelihood of rain could increase in the following five days.
