The government has promoted three officials to secretary rank during the Eid-ul-Azha holidays as the BNP administration continues major bureaucratic reshuffles.

Among them, home ministry Additional Secretary Md Ataur Rahman Khan has been given charge of the commerce ministry.

At the same time, promoted Mymensingh Divisional Commissioner Farah Shammi was made secretary for coordination and reforms at the Cabinet Division.

The other promoted additional secretary is agriculture ministry Additional Secretary Nasir-ud-Doula. The government has made him the chairman of the Trade and Tariff Commission.

Apart from these three promotions through separate orders from the public administration ministry, Information and Communication Technology Division Secretary Quazi Anowar Hossain was removed on Monday.

He has been attached to the public administration ministry.

In place of Anowar, Additional Secretary at the Information and Communication Technology Division Mamunur Rashid Bhuiyan has been made acting secretary.

Since the BNP came to government through the election on Feb 17, a series of reshuffles has been ongoing within the public administration.

Many officials are also receiving promotions. Conversely, many are being removed from their previous responsibilities.

Quite a few officials in the administration and police have also been sent into mandatory retirement. Many others, on the other hand, are retiring voluntarily.

Against this backdrop, under Monday's new order, the commerce ministry has received a new secretary one month and ten days later.

Since the ministry’s secretary Mahbubur Rahman died of malaria on Apr 17 April, the ministry has been without a secretary.

The newly promoted Ataur Rahman has been given this responsibility.
