Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has joined the opening ceremony of “Notun Kuri Sports”, a talent search initiative designed to foster the physical and mental growth of children and adolescents.

The event began at the Sylhet District Stadium at 4pm on Saturday in the presence of young participants.

This nationwide competition marks a major move to scout gifted youngsters, through which the government aims to develop top-tier athletes from the grassroots.

The sports directorate is implementing the scheme under the supervision of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, following a key pledge from the BNP election manifesto.

Drawing inspiration from the iconic 1980s talent search “Notun Kuri”, this new initiative focuses on identifying potential within the sporting arena.

State Minister for Sports Aminul Haque described the initiative as a landmark move, noting that it will serve as a robust platform for producing the next generation of skilled players.

The primary objective involves discovering and nurturing the latent abilities of children aged between 12 and 14, providing them with state-sponsored opportunities to excel.

The competition will feature eight disciplines, including cricket, football, kabaddi, athletics, chess, badminton, swimming, and martial arts.
