A 60-year-old woman has allegedly been beaten to death in Dhaka’s Hazaribagh area over a longstanding land dispute.

Five people have been arrested in connection with the incident, which occurred around midnight on Thursday, according to Additional Sub-Inspector Abdul Hai of Hazaribagh Police Station.

However, the identities of the arrestees have yet to be disclosed.

The victim, identified as Rowshan Ara, was initially taken to a local hospital in critical condition. Later, around 3:15am, she was brought to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where doctors declared her dead, according to Inspector Md Faruk, chief of the DMCH police outpost.

Her daughter, Runa Akter, said their family had been embroiled in a land dispute with another local group for a long time.

“Recently, they even cut off our house’s electrical wiring because of the conflict."

"Last night, Abdur Rahim, Rakib, Abdur Rahman, and a few others beat my mother severely with pipes and sticks,” she added.

Inspector Faruk said Rowshan Ara's body has been kept at the hospital morgue for an autopsy.
