Police say the body of a school student has been found hanged at a home in the Posta area of Dhaka’s Lalbagh.
The body of 17-year-old Farhan Rahman Jihad, a 10th grader at Ideal Model School and College, was found by his family hanged with a scarf from a ceiling fan at their home near Shahi Mosque around 7:30pm on Sunday.
Jihad was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where doctors declared him dead at 8:30pm, according to Inspector Md Faruk of the DMCH Police Outpost.
Citing Jihad’s friends, his older brother Fahim Rahman Rudro said: “I heard from Jihad’s friends that he was in a romantic relationship with a girl at school. They had gone out together in the afternoon.
“Jihad returned home in the evening and was talking on his mobile phone. He then had an argument and locked the door to his room. He did not open it, even after we called him repeatedly. Later, we broke down the door and saw that Jihad was hanging from the fan by a scarf around his neck. We got him down and rushed him to the hospital, where the doctor declared him dead.”
Inspector Faruk said, “The body has been kept at the morgue for a post-mortem. The family said it was a suicide. Police are investigating and also looking into the cause of the suicide.”
