The number of hospitalised patients with the mosquito-borne disease tops 40,000

Three more people have died of dengue while 583 more patients have been hospitalised with the Aedes mosquito-borne disease across the country in the past 24 hours.
The Directorate General of Health Services, or DGHS, said as many as 260 were hospitalised in Dhaka among the new dengue patients until Thursday morning.
In addition, 149 were hospitalised in the Dhaka Division, 29 in the Mymensingh Division, 22 in the Chattogram Division, 27 each in Khulna and Rajshahi divisions, seven in the Rangpur Division, and 62 in the Barishal Division.
With the new counts, the number of hospitalised dengue patients has reached 40,405 so far this year. A total of 199 people died among them.
As many as 3,495 patients are currently undergoing treatment for dengue in hospitals across the country. They include 1,772 in the capital and 1,723 outside Dhaka.
The DGHS has been keeping records of dengue hospitalisations and deaths since 2000.
Since then, a record 321,179 dengue hospitalisations were logged in 2023. The highest 1,705 people also died of the disease that year.
