A man and his wife have been found dead at their home in Mahadebpur Upazila of Naogaon.

Mahadebpur Police chief Omar Faruk said police recovered the bodies from Paharpur of Sofapur Union on Monday morning.

The dead were identified as Lokman Mondal, 55, and his wife, Delowara Begum, 45, residents of Paharpur village under the same union.

Police sent the bodies to the Naogaon Sadar Hospital morgue for postmortem.

According to police and locals, the couple had dinner and went to bed on Sunday night. Around 4am, their son, Mukhtar Hossain, called neighbours, who entered the house and found the bodies of the husband and wife lying on a bed.

Locals alleged that Mukhtar is addicted to drugs and mobile phone gambling and frequently demanded money from his parents to fund his addiction.

They suspect he may have fed his parents something poisonous after they refused to give him money.

Officer Faruk said preliminary findings suggest the couple may have died after consuming poisonous food, but the exact cause of death will be confirmed after the postmortem report is received.

He added that an unnatural death case has been filed with the police station.
