A man has died after two buses crashed into each other on the Dhaka-Mawa Expressway in Munshiganj’s Sreenagar Upazila.

Three more people were injured in the accident, which occurred in the Hasara area around 8:20am on Sunday, according to Dewan Azad Hossain, station officer of the Sreenagar Fire Service.

The dead man was identified as 20-year-old Shariatullah, son of Jamal Hossain of Harina Gazipur village in Pirojpur district. He was the assistant to the driver of an Imad Paribahan bus.

Hasara Highway Police Station Sub-Inspector Nur Mohammad said a Hanif Paribahan bus was parked on the expressway's Mawa-bound lane as it had broken down. An Imad Paribahan bus then ploughed into it from behind.

Shariatullah was killed on the spot, according to Dewan.

Traffic came to a standstill for about 40 minutes on the Mawa-bound lane, leading to a long tailback.

Those injured in the accident were sent to the Sreenagar Upazila Health Complex and traffic gradually returned to normal, SI Nur Mohammad said.
