Tanveer Salehin Emon, the superintendent of police (basic training-2) at the Bangladesh Police Academy in Rajshahi’s Sardah, has been detained and taken to Dhaka by a team from the Detective Branch of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
Officials in Rajshahi say he was detained around 10pm on Tuesday.
Tanveer was the deputy commissioner (headquarters & administration) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police during the July uprising. He was sent to Rajshahi after the changeover in power.
Sarwar Jahan, additional deputy inspector general of the police Rajshahi Range, said on Wednesday: “A DB team from Dhaka took SP Tanveer Salehin Emon away last night. I do not know why, or on what charges he was taken. I only know that a DB team came and we provided support to them.”
Asked about the situation, DMP spokesman Mohammad Talebur Rahman said: “I have no updates on the matter at the moment.”
Tanveer, a member of the BCS 28th batch, hails from Kishoreganj. His father, Md Iqbal, is a former general secretary of the Awami League unit in Kishoreganj’s Karimganj Upazila.
