Hijra leader found dead in Chattogram home, bruises indicate strangulation

The leader has been found dead with a mark on their neck, prompting a police investigation

Police have recovered the body of a hijra from their home in Chattogram, where they were known to a section of the community as "Guru Ma."

The body was found on Saturday at Shaheed Minar Colony in the city's Khulshi-Ambagan.

The deceased, Md Moshin, also known as Moushumi, was estimated to be around 55 years old.

Police informed that Moushumi's disciples went to the residence on Saturday and found the gate locked from outside.

After entering the home, they then found her lying face down on the bed and alerted police. The Hijra community demanded a fair investigation.

Police noted that a black mark was visible on Moushumi's neck. They said CCTV footage and other evidence had been collected from the surrounding area, and that the matter was being treated with seriousness.

The body has been sent to Chattogram Medical College Hospital's morgue for a post-mortem examination.
