Local government elections will be held by the end of the year, says Prime Minister's Information and Broadcasting Advisor Zahed Ur Rahman.
He also said it would take 10 months to a year to organise elections at various levels of local government.
At a briefing held at the Secretariat on Tuesday to highlight the progress of different government initiatives, he said: "Regarding the local government elections, our minister said work will be done on this very soon. In the case of local government elections, it will take 10 months to a year to complete all the polls.
"You know many of the elections, especially at the union council level, are held in stages. They will take that time and the work is ongoing. Questions are raised quite often on whether this government will hold local government elections or not."
Asked when the elections at various levels of the local government will be completed, Zahed said: "The elections will take 10 months to a year to organise and the elections will begin by the end of this year. The ministry had also previously noted that some preparations are needed."
