Former Sirajganj MP Abdul Aziz arrested in Dhaka

He has been detained in an attempt-to-murder case, RAB says

The Rapid Action Battalion, or RAB, has arrested former Sirajganj-3 MP Md Abdul Aziz in Dhaka’s Kalabagan.

In a message, the elite force’s legal and media wing confirmed his detention in an attempt-to-murder case initiated at Sirajganj’s Tarash Police Station on Monday night.

Deposed prime minister Sheikh Hasina left the country for India in the wake of a mass movement on Aug 5 last year.

After the formation of the interim government two days later, top leaders and influential parliamentarians, including Awami League ministers and state ministers, continued to be arrested one by one.

The RAB gave information about Aziz’s arrest about six months later.

He was elected to parliament as an Awami League candidate from Sirajganj-3 (Raiganj-Tarash) constituency in the 11th and 12th parliamentary elections.

Aziz, a former director of Dhaka's Shishu Hospital and a renowned paediatrician, was the president of the pro-Awami League Swadhinata Chikitshak Parishad’s Shishu Hospital unit.
