Jamaat chief wishes for ‘discrimination-free Bangladesh’ in Eid greetings

He will offer Eid prayers at Manipur

Leader of the Opposition Shafiqur Rahman has greeted the people on Eid-ul-Fitr, wishing them happiness, peace, prosperity, good health and a safe life in the country “free from discrimination”.

Extending the greetings both personally and on his party Jamaat-e-Islami’s behalf on Friday, he said the Eid has arrived with a message of joy after the month-long fasting.

"The nation is celebrating the holy Eid-ul-Fitr after the national elections held in the country in a fascism-free environment, with a new government formed. A long-standing undemocratic and oppressive government has fallen," he said.

The Jamaat chief added: "The countrymen hope no one dares to become fascist again. The people of the country will be able to move and speak in an environment free from fear.

“There will be no difference or discrimination between the people," he said, before urging the government to materialise the “July Charter”.

The Islamist party in a media statement said Shafiqur, also the lawmaker from the Dhaka-15 constituency, will offer Eid prayers at Manipur near the 60-foot Road in the capital’s Mirpur at 8am on Saturday. He is supposed to greet devotees there.

After that, he will exchange Eid greetings physically at his government-allotted home on Mintu Road from 11am until the afternoon.
