Former general secretary of Dhaka north unit of the BNP’s volunteer wing Azizur Rahman Muchabbir has been gunned down in the capital.
Another man, identified as Anwar Hossain, was injured in the attack.
The incident occurred shortly after 8pm on Wednesday when unidentified gunmen opened fire near Tejgaon’s Tejturi Bazar area, behind Bashundhara City Shopping Complex.
Tejgaon Division Additional Deputy Commissioner Fazlur Rahman said, “Two people were shot in the alley beside Star Kabab. One of them has died. They were taken to BRB Hospital.”
Muchabbir was also the joint secretary of the central council of the Jatiyatabadi Swechchhasebak Dal, though he held no position of late.
During the last Awami League government, he was arrested several times and imprisoned.

Witnesses said Muchabbir, along with Masud, general secretary of the Van Workers’ Union under Tejgaon Police Station, and a few others, were chatting in the alley near Star Kabab.
At that time, several assailants on a motorcycle opened fire, targeting Muchabbir. Masud was also hit.
Both were rushed to BRB Hospital, where doctors declared Muchabbir dead. Masud was later transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Faruk Hosen, inspector at the medical police post, said Masud was shot on the left side of his abdomen. “His surgery has been completed, and doctors have confirmed he is now out of danger,” he added.
Following the killing, Muchabbir’s supporters blocked the SAARC Fountain intersection in Karwan Bazar, disrupting traffic. The army cleared the crowd around 10:30pm, restoring normal traffic flow.
