The father of the slain Khulna University MBA student Arnab Kumar Sarkar has brought murder charges against unidentified people.
Sonadanga Police Station chief Md Shafiqul Islam said Nitish Kumar Sarkar filed the case around 10pm on Saturday.
Arnab was shot dead in the Tentultala More area of Khulna city around 9pm on Jan 24.
Shafiqul said the case lists 25 to 30 unnamed people as accused.
He also said two of the three suspects detained for questioning were released on Sunday.
Witnesses said he was sipping tea while leaning on a motorcycle in front of a tea shop when gunmen arrived on several motorcycles, shot him, and fled.
One of the bullets pierced through Arnab’s head.
Locals quickly rushed to his aid and transported him to City Medical College Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by doctors.
After completing his BBA from North Western University, 26-year-old Arnab was admitted to Khulna University for his postgraduate studies.
Arnab’s father works as a contractor. His younger brother, Anik, is currently sitting for university admission exams.
The family has been residents of Khulna city for the past 15 years.
Neighbours described Arnab as a polite young man, and no one had ever seen him misbehave.
He balanced his studies with helping his father manage the business.
The city residents have also expressed concern about the law and order situation in recent times.
According to them, the law and order situation in the city is far from normal.
Khulna is gradually becoming a city of terror, they say, especially with the onset of the evening, causing significant concern among the city's residents.
