Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Police have detained Anwar Hossain Manju, a former Jatiya Party minister and the editor of Daily Ittefaq, in Dhaka.

He was detained from Dhanmondi on Monday, said DB Joint Commissioner (North) Robiul Islam Bhuiyan.

He has been sued in five cases surrounding the violence during the Anti-discrimination Student Movement.

The former minister is the leader of a Jatiya Party faction known as JP (Manju).

He was elected to parliament six times from Pirojpur-2 constituency.

He was also a minister twice. His father, Tofazzal Hossain Manik Miah, is the founding editor of the Daily Ittefaq.

Manju served as Ittefaq's editor from 1972 to 1975. His wife, Tasmima Hossain, is the current editor of the Bengali daily while the couple’s daughter, Tareen Hossain is the current publisher.
