The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has announced a raft of measures to control traffic in and around the capital to ensure smooth vehicular movement during Eid-ul-Fitr.

In a notice issued on Sunday, the DMP noted that over 10 million people typically leave Dhaka for the holidays, while around 3 million enter the city from other areas.

"To facilitate a smooth and hassle-free journey for homebound travellers, the DMP’s Traffic Division has implemented various initiatives.”

In a meeting chaired by the road transport advisor on Mar 9, it was decided that trucks, covered vans, and lorries would be banned from using highways between Mar 25-28 and for three days after Eid.

Authorities also decided to make the Abdullahpur-Dhour-Ashulia road one-way for outbound traffic, while the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) lane will be designated exclusively to vehicles leaving the capital.

The DMP also announced that from Mar 25 until Eid night, traffic restrictions would be in place on several key roads.

On the Dhaka-Ashulia Highway, vehicles exiting Dhaka will use the Abdullahpur-Kamarpara-Dhour Bridge road as a one-way route. Vehicles entering Dhaka via Ashulia-Dhour-Kamarpara-Abdullahpur must use the Mirpur Beribadh road via Ashulia-Dhour-Panchabati.

Meanwhile, the BRT lanes (airport to Gazipur) along the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway will be one-way for outbound traffic towards Joydebpur intersection. Inbound traffic will not be allowed to use the designated BRT lane to enter Dhaka. Other lanes of the highway will remain open for regular traffic.

ROADS TO AVOID EXCEPT FOR EMERGENCIES:

  1. Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway (Airport to Abdullahpur)
  2. Dhaka-Chattogram Highway (Jatrabari to Signboard)
  3. Purbachal Expressway (300 Feet Road)
  4. Dhaka-Aricha Highway (Shyamoli to Gabtoli via Mirpur Road)
  5. Dhaka-Keraniganj Road (Fulbari to Tantibazar to Babubazar Bridge)
  6. Dhaka-Maowa Highway (Jatrabari to Buriganga Bridge)
  7. Mohammadpur Bosila Crossing to Bosila Bridge Road
  8. Abdullahpur to Dhour Bridge Road
