Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus, has directed officials to ensure maximum preparedness to face the “worst possible situation” surrounding the next parliamentary polls.
His Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam said Yunus issued the directive during a high-level government meeting on election preparations held on Wednesday.
The meeting, lasting over two hours at the State Guest House Jamuna, discussed election readiness in detail. Later, the press secretary briefed reporters at the Foreign Service Academy.
He said discussions covered several issues:
Countering misinformation on social media
Key pre-election appointments
Training of election officials
Maintaining law and order
During the meeting, Yunus said: “Many forces, both from inside and outside, will try to derail the election. Not minor ones -- attacks could come from powerful forces. This election will be challenging. Whatever storms come, we must overcome them.”
The government is preparing to hold the general election before Ramadan in February, with all preparations to be completed by Nov 15.
