59 trainee sub-inspectors in Sardah served show-cause notices over ‘breach of discipline’

They are asked to explain why they should not be dismissed from the training programme

The Sardah Police Academy in Rajshahi has served show-cause notices on 59 trainee sub-inspectors recommended for final appointment, following allegations of misconduct during training classes.

The trainees are accused of causing disruptions by sitting disorderly and creating a raucous during training sessions.

Deputy Inspector General Md Golam Rouf Khan said the notices were issued in two phases, with 10 trainees receiving them on Monday and 49 on Thursday.

“They have been asked to explain their behaviour concerning the allegations of indiscipline, and letters have already been issued,” he added.

The actions follow the dismissal of 252 SIs from the same training batch on Oct 21 due to their alleged involvement in a disturbance during a final parade practice.

Kamrul Ahsan, senior information officer at the Police Headquarters, said: “This is a routine matter. I have heard that they were show-caused due to the alleged breach of discipline in the classroom.”

According to the notices, on the evening of Oct 21, during a class on ‘various important provisions of law’, instructors observed that the accused SIs were seated disorderly, causing disruptions despite repeated instructions to maintain decorum.

The notices highlight that not paying attention and engaging in conversations during lessons contravenes the regulations of the Bangladesh Police Academy.

The trainees have been instructed to submit written explanations within three days regarding why they should not be dismissed from their ongoing basic training under the Police Regulations of Bengal, 1943.
