Four people have been killed in a fire at a residential hotel in Dhaka’s Shahjadpur.
The fire was reported at the “Soudia Hotel” in Bhatara Thana around 12:15pm on Monday, according to the Fire Service.
Two firefighting units were dispatched to the scene and were able to douse the flames around 1pm, according to Fire Service spokesman Talha Bin Jashim.
“The Fire Service began firefighting efforts around 12:15pm when a fire was reported to have broken out on the second floor of a six-storey building,” he said. “Two units brought the fire under control around 1:04pm.”
“The building was then searched and four bodies were recovered from the sixth floor. One of them was found in the washroom and three others were found on the stairs. The door to the stairs was locked.”
All four of the victims were men, but the Fire Service official said that they had yet to confirm their names and identities.
Sub-Inspector Palash Hossain of Gulshan Police Station said, "We are in the process of recovering the bodies and sending them to the hospital for autopsies. We are trying to confirm their names and identities."
