Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain has called for a ban on the speech by President Md Shahabuddin during the first session of the 13th parliament.

The National Citizen Party (NCP) spokesperson made the call at a protest programme on Thursday at Manik Mia Avenue when the 13th parliament met for its first session.

NCP followers hung different placards on the boundary wall of the parliament as part of their programme. The placards contained slogans like “president must be impeached,” “July mass killings should be brought to trial” and others.

The first session of the 13th parliament started on Thursday. NCP Convener and Opposition Chief Whip Nahid Islam demanded the names of Inqilab Moncho leader Sharif Osman Bin Hadi, BUET student Abrar Fahad, Felani, who was killed at the border, to be included in its condolence motion.

The protest programme was organised under the banner of “Families of the Martyrs and Injured in the July Mass Uprising” to demand of implementing reforms as per the referendum, impeachment of the president, and trial of mass killings in the July Uprising. Some NCP leaders took part in the protest. Family members of different martyred and injured victims in the July Uprising participated in the programme.

Asif Mahmud said, "During the president's speech, we want to see who is sitting in the parliament listening. From this point, Bangladesh will be divided into two parts. One is for fascism, the other is against fascism."

"Those who stand against fascism should not give this president a chance to speak. They should create obstacles for the president to speak and demand impeachment."

Asif demanded that the Constitutional Reform Council be sworn in and reforms implemented in accordance with the referendum's popular vote in light of the July Charter.

The protesters formed a human chain and NCP Joint Convener Sarwar Tushar read out three demands. The three demands are that the Reform Council be sworn in, the president be impeached, and that justice for July killings is ensured.
