Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has announced Eid gifts for sanitation workers of 12 city corporations across the country, with each cleaner set to receive Tk 5,000.

He handed over cheques to mayors and administrators, including the mayor of Chattogram City Corporation, at his office in the parliament secretariat at around 3:30pm on Sunday, said Additional Press Secretary Atiqur Rahman Ruman.

“The honourable prime minister handed over cheques to the mayors and administrators as Eid gifts of Tk 5,000 for each cleaner of the city corporations,” Ruman said.

He said the financial assistance had been provided as a gesture of respect and solidarity with sanitation workers ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr.

“Cleaners play a crucial role in keeping the country’s cities clean and liveable. In recognition of their tireless efforts, the prime minister has taken this initiative,” he said.

Ruman said the prime minister hoped the assistance would add to the joy of Eid for the workers’ families.

He also said the government would continue various humanitarian and welfare initiatives for the wellbeing of those engaged in urban services.
