Rashiduzzaman Moral, the former lawmaker from the Khulna-6 seat, has been arrested amid the detention of Awami League MPs and ministers after the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government.
He was placed under arrest in a joint operation by two Rapid Action Battalion, or RAB, teams in Patuakhali’s Mohipur area on Wednesday.
The former member of parliament from the Khulna-6 (Koira-Paikgasa) seat has been arrested in three cases over violence and explosives, according to the RAB statement.
Rashiduzzaman, former chairman of Kapilmuni Union Parishad, was elected chairman of Paikgasa Upazila Parishad in 2009.
In the 2019 Upazila election, Rashiduzzaman ran as an independent candidate after being denied the Awami League's nomination, but his deposit was forfeited.
He was elected as an MP from Khulna-6 under the Awami League ticket in the 12th parliamentary elections in January this year.
Hasina resigned and fled the country for India on Aug 5 in the wake of a mass uprising. After the formation of the interim government on Aug 8, Awami League ministers, state ministers, high-profile leaders and influential parliamentarians have been arrested one by one.
About 50 party members, including former ministers, MPs, advisors and top leaders, are now in jail.
