The interim government has transferred and appointed 166 new Upazila administrators (UNOs) in a single-day administrative reshuffle ahead of the general elections.

On Wednesday, the public administration ministry issued notifications assigning senior assistant secretary-level officers to the new postings.

The move comes as the country prepares for simultaneous national election and referendum in early February.

The UNOs will exercise powers as executive magistrates under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898, in their jurisdictions, the ministry said.

Officials receiving new postings are required to assume their duties by Nov 30. Failure to report will result in immediate release from their current assignment.

Officers whose offices or postings have already changed must submit their joining letters with the updated office address.
