India’s Border Security Force has detained a Bangladeshi man from the Jibannagar border in Chuadanga.
The incident occurred around 10am on Wednesday near Benipur village along the frontier, according to Lt Col Md Rafiqul Alam, commander of Maheshpur-58 Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Battalion.
The victim, Badar Uddin, 26, is the son of Abdul Karim from the village.
Karim said: “In the morning, villagers told me that my son had been taken by the BSF. At first we heard he had been killed, but later we came to know he was alive.
“We have appealed to the BGB so that my son, who is a cattle trader, can be brought back quickly.”
BGB officer Rafiqul said, “We have confirmed the matter. Contact is under way with the BSF at company commander level to bring him back.”
Jibannagar Police chief Mamun Hossain Biswas said they had not received any update about a possible flag meeting or Badar’s return.
