Assailants have stabbed two women to death and critically injured another after storming a house in Bogura town.

The incident took place around 8:15pm in the Islampur Horigari area under Ward No. 14 of the municipality, said Mostafa Manzur, additional police superintendent for Bogura Sadar Circle.

The victims were identified as 83-year-old Laily Bewa, wife of the late Abdul Kuddus Bulu, and 21-year-old Habiba Yasmin, wife of Parvez Islam.

Police said the older woman was the grandmother-in-law of the younger one.

The injured woman, identified only as Bonna, is the daughter of Laily’s son Bulbul, police added.

She is currently in critical condition.

According to Bonna’s cousin Md Khokon, the attack was carried out by a man named Saikat, also identified by a single name, who had allegedly been harassing Bonna for some time.

“Saikat liked Bonna and frequently harassed her,” Khokon said.

“This evening, when no men were present in the house, Saikat and around seven to eight others forced their way in.”

He said Habiba confronted them and scolded the group.

“They got enraged and first stabbed Habiba in the neck. Then they attacked Laily in the same way. When Bonna rushed in, they stabbed her in the abdomen before fleeing the scene.”

Officer Mostafa said police launched a manhunt to arrest those involved.

“We’ve begun operations to track down the suspects. The exact motive behind the killings is still under investigation,” he said.

No arrests have yet been reported.
