Police have recovered the body of a woman with her throat slit from a rented house in the Kalachandpur area of Dhaka’s Gulshan Thana.
The deceased has been identified as 27-year-old Sadia Akhtar Mimi, who worked as a dancer at a restaurant and bar, police say. She also had a beauty parlour business.
Law enforcers believe the murder occurred between Friday afternoon and 9pm on Saturday. The body was recovered late on Saturday night and sent to the Dhaka Medical College morgue on Sunday afternoon.
Sub-Inspect Maruf Ahmed of Gulshan Police Station said the body was recovered after it was reported at the house in the Paschim Para area. In addition to the cut on her neck, there were other wounds from a sharp object on the body.
The SI said that Sadia used to share the apartment with a woman named Nusrat. Police have been informed that Nusrat has been at her ancestral home in Shariatpur for the past two days.
It is not yet clear who killed Sadia or why, Maruf said. Sadia last saw her older sister on Friday. Her phone had been turned off since then. Her sister eventually came to the Kalachandpur residence on Saturday and saw the door was locked. She broke the lock, entered, found the body, and reported the incident to the police.
