A man has been accused of killing his wife and mother-in-law over a family feud in Pirojpur’s Bhandaria Upazila.
The incident occurred at Dawa village in Dhawa Union around 11pm on Monday, said Ahmed Anwar, chief of Bhandaria Police Station.
The dead have been identified as 32-year-old Champa Begum and her 50-year-old mother Bilkis Begum.
Champa’s husband Badol Khan, 45, works as a tea trader. He has been absconding since the incident.
Locals say Champa is Badol’s fourth wife. The two married 20 days ago. They believe he killed his new wife and mother-in-law over a “family feud”, set the house on fire and fled.
Locals rushed to put out the fire when Badol’s son from his second marriage informed the neighbours about it. The locals then informed the police station about the incident.
The mother and daughter had their throats slit, OC Ahmed said. The bodies have been recovered and sent to the morgue for an autopsy.
He could not immediately confirm the motive for the killings.
