Prime Minister Tarique Rahman wants to see “visible progress” in the construction of the Inner Circular Ring Road, a circular road project aimed at easing traffic congestion in the capital.
At a review meeting held at the Cabinet Division in the Prime Minister’s Office on Sunday, the prime minister instructed officials to accelerate the project, said Deputy Press Secretary Mostafa Zulfiquar Hasan.
He said, “The meeting discussed identifying the existing obstacles to implementing the project and removing them quickly, ensuring effective coordination among the relevant agencies, and setting a realistic deadline for completing the work.”
“The honourable Prime Minister has asked for visible progress in the construction work of the project. Necessary directives have been given to speed up the construction work,” he said.
At the meeting, Prime Minister Tarique instructed the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges and the Local Government Division to jointly review the existing project plan and take steps to accelerate the construction work.
One section of the circular road around Dhaka will extend from Abdullahpur Railgate through Dhour, Birulia, Gabtoli, Bosila, Hazaribagh, Sadarghat, Kadamtali, Tegharia, Posta, Fatullah, Chashara and Shimrail to Demra. Another section will run from the railgate through Teramukh, Purbachal and Beraid to Demra.
Altogether, the road will be approximately 89km long.
Construction work is currently under way in the Rayerbazar, Hazaribagh and Kamrangirchar sections. Once the circular road is completed, people will be able to travel from one end of the capital to the other without using roads inside the city.
Road Transport and Bridges and Railways and Shipping Minister Shaikh Rabiul Alam, State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam, State Minister for Road Transport and Bridges and Railways Ministry Habibur Rashid Habib, Dhaka South City Corporation Administrator Abdus Salam, Dhaka North City Corporation Administrator Shafiqul Islam Khan Milton, and senior officials from the relevant ministries and departments were present at the meeting.
