Vehicular movement on the Sajek road in Rangamati’s Baghaichari Upazila has resumed after 10 hours after it was suspended by several landslides.

According to Upazila Nirbahi (executive) Officer Shireen Akhtar, traffic returns to normal at 2:30pm on Thursday.

The road link between Khagrachari and the Sajek Valley, a tourist destination, had come to a halt at 4am, leaving more than 500 tourists stranded.

Subarna Deb Barman, president of the Sajek Resort-Cottage Owners Association, said the stranded tourists have started heading back as traffic has resumed.

UNO Shireen added that local residents, the Upazila administration, Army and Fire Service personnel began clearing the soil from the collapsed road this morning.
