The body of Zamil Ahamed Limon, the Bangladeshi national who was killed while studying in the US, has returned home.
Emirates Airlines Flight EK582 landed in Dhaka at 8:59am on Monday as Limon’s family and friends gathered at the airport’s cargo gate.
Limon’s uncle, Mortuza Sheikh Jashim, had come to collect the body alongside other members of the family.
He told the media that the body would be taken to the family’s ancestral home in Jamalpur’s Madarganj Upazila.
“Funeral prayers will be held after Maghrib, followed by the burial,” he said.
Jashim said the family wanted justice from the US and Bangladeshi governments for the murder.
He also said that US authorities and representatives of the Bangladesh government are in touch with the family.
Limon's father Zahurul Haque could not hold back his tears when he came to collect his son's body.
We sincerely hope that no one else loses their life like this while studying abroad, he said.
"The last time I spoke to my son was on the Pahela Baishakh (the first day of the Bengali New Year). He said he was very busy. He did not tell the family about any problems or issues,” he said.
"He just told his mother that boy [Limon’s roommate Hisham Abugharbieh, who has been charged with his murder] always stays indoors and was acting abnormally. His mother told him, ‘Let him be, son. Just try and stay well yourself’."
The father said, “The most difficult thing for me is that I went through so much hardship to raise my two sons. I never raised my hand to hurt them physically. Whatever discipline was enforced, was done verbally. But my son had to die like this... only the Almighty knows how much pain he suffered when he died."
Nahida Sultana Bristy and Limon, both PhD students at the University of South Florida, were found dead in the US. They had been missing since Apr 16. Limon’s body was recovered on Apr 24.
Authorities later informed Bristy’s family that she had also been killed. Police recovered human remains from a local reservoir during the search. On May 1, they identified them as Bristy’s remains.
On the same day that Limon’s body was found, his roommate -- 26-year-old Hisham Abugharbieh -- was arrested Abugharbieh, a US citizen, has since been charged with two counts of premeditated murder.
Limon’s younger brother Zubaer Ahmed told a Florida news outlet that Limon and Bristy had been in a relationship for four and a half years.
They had planned to marry after completing their higher education with the blessing of both families, but their lives were cut short before they could do so.
