The Election Commission (EC) has extended the deadline for voter registration through the Postal Vote BD app until Dec 31 for the parliamentary elections and referendum.

EC Secretary Akhtar Ahmed announced the decision at a briefing at the Nirbachan Bhabsn on Wednesday.

The deadline was originally set to expire on Dec 25.

“The deadline has now been extended to Dec 31. Those at home and abroad who have not yet completed registration will be able to do so within the extended period,” the EC secretary said.

The registration process began on Nov 19.

Salim Ahmad Khan, team leader of the Out of Country Voting System and Implementation (OCV-SDI) project, said the extended deadline applies to expatriate voters, government employees, polling officials, and voters in legal custody.

As of 4pm on Wednesday, a total of 679,186 voters had registered through the app.
