The police have rescued an infant abducted from Thakurgaon Sadar Hospital. The child was found in Gazipur two days after the abduction. Four individuals have been arrested over the incident.

The child was rescued from Mulaid village in Sreepur Upazila on Tuesday night, according to Shahidur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Thakurgaon Sadar Police Station.

The four arrestees have been identified as Sonali Akhter Shirin, 20, her husband Md Raju Kabiraj, 22, Md Liton Mia, 35, and his wife Lovely Begum, 32.

Shonali and Raju are from Nultala village in Gaibandha’s Gobindaganj Upazila, whereas Liton and Lovely are from Chokpara village in Netrokona’s Kalmakanda Upazila.

Shimul Islam and Hashi Begum, residents of the Munshirhat area in Thakurgaon Sadar Upazila, brought their two-month-old infant to Thakurgaon General Hospital on Mar 9 because of respiratory issues. The child was abducted from the hospital the next evening. Later, CCTV footage from the hospital showed a lady in a black burqa taking the baby.

Shimul filed a kidnapping case with Thakurgaon Sadar Police Station over the incident.

Sheikh Jahidul Islam, Thakurgaon superintendent of police, said: “Once we learnt that the child was stolen from Thakurgaon and taken to Gazipur, we immediately informed the Gazipur Metropolitan Police and RAB. Later, the child was rescued by Gazipur RAB with the use of advanced technology. Those involved in this incident will be brought to justice.”

“The kidnappers threatened us,” said the child’s mother, Hashi. “I demand my child safety. I also want the criminals punished.”
