Ex-secretary Amjad, his son detained in possession of Tk 11mn in cash

Police also seize foreign currency, 11 iPhones and several expensive watches in a raid

Police say they have detained Amjad Hossain Khan, former additional secretary of local government, rural development and cooperatives, and his son Asif Hasan.

The two were detained in a raid on a home in Dhaka’s Uttara Sector 13 late on Sunday night, according to Hafizur Rahman, chief of Uttara West Police Station.

“A four-hour joint forces operation at the scene seized Tk 10.95 million in cash, some foreign currency, 11 iPhones and some expensive watches from different brands,” he said.

Legal action is being prepared against them, OC Hafizur said.

Amjad was appointed as the additional secretary to the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives in 2020 and subsequently retired. He hails from Gazipur’s Sadar Upazila.
