Seven deputy inspectors general (DIGs) of police have been promoted to the rank of additional inspector general (IGP) as supernumerary appointees.
According to a notification issued by the home ministry on Monday, the promoted officers will serve in their current posts despite the elevation in rank.

The notification said the tenure of these supernumerary positions will be one year.
If any of the posts become vacant due to promotion, retirement, removal, or any other reason, the positions will be automatically abolished, it added.
