A Dhaka court has ordered the withdrawal of arrest warrants for BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman and other absconding suspects in the Aug 21 grenade attack case.
Dhaka's Speedy Trial Tribunal 1 Judge Rafiqul Islam gave the order on Monday.
The court's ruling came in response to an application filed by the state, which requested the withdrawal of the arrest warrants.
Earlier, on Dec 1, 2024, the bench of Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice Syed Enayet Hossain acquitted Tarique and all other suspects in the widely-discussed case.
Abdur Rashid Molla, special public prosecutor for the Fast Track Tribunal 1, said that several individuals who were acquitted in the case, including Tarique, had been absconding.
He confirmed that the court has ordered the withdrawal of the previously issued arrest warrants against them in its verdict.
Upon receiving the High Court’s directive, the state submitted a request to the trial court for the withdrawal of the arrest warrants for Tarique and the others.
In response to the application, the court granted the withdrawal of the warrants.
