A fire that broke out at a multi-storey leather warehouse in Dhaka’s Hazaribagh has been brought under control after two and a half hours.
Twelve units of the Fire Service were able to tame the flames around 4:45pm, according to Shahjahan Sikder, spokesman for the agency.
A fire had been reported on the fifth floor of a seven-storey building in the Tannery Wet Market area around 2:15pm, he said.
“Two units were sent to the scene when the fire was reported and began operations around 2:23pm.”
Ten other units joined the firefighting efforts in several rounds, he said.
A platoon of Border Guard Bangladesh personnel also joined the rescue effort, according to BGB spokesman Md Shariful Islam.
Fire Service official Shahjahan was not immediately able to provide details on the cause of the fire or the extent of the damage.
