EC orders officials to finalise list of polling stations by Aug 27

Officials expect more than 45,000 polling centres as the EC prepares for phased local government elections

The Election Commission (EC) has ordered its field officers to finalise the list of possible polling stations by Aug 27 before the local government elections.

EC Senior Assistant Secretary Md Rashid Mia sent a letter to the district election officers on Wednesday.

Officials said the local government elections will be held in phases starting from October, with the EC set to publish the updated final voter list on Aug 31.

There were 43,000 centers in the last parliamentary election, but another 2,000 polling stations could be added across Bangladesh ahead of the union council, Upazila, municipality and city corporation polls.
