The brothers of Abu Sayed, a student who was killed by police during an anti-discrimination protest, have paid a courtesy visit to Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus.
The meeting took place at the State Guest House Jamuna on Wednesday.
During the United Nations General Assembly in September, Yunus spoke about the sacrifices of Abu Sayed and other martyrs, a moment that moved Sayed’s family deeply, according to the Chief Advisor's Office.
Sayed’s elder brother, Ramzan Ali, expressed his gratitude, saying, “You honoured us by highlighting Sayed’s courageous role in the revolution and by visiting our village in Rangpur just a day after becoming chief advisor.”
On Tuesday, the brothers had joined the chief advisor on stage as members of the President Guard Regiment presented a guard of honour.
“Standing next to the chief advisor as we received the soldiers’ salute was an indescribable experience,” said Ramzan.
In the meeting, Sayed's brothers updated the chief advisor on the ongoing investigation into his death, calling for justice and strict punishment for those responsible.
They also shared plans to establish a foundation in Sayed’s name and to build a 'model mosque' and medical college in their village, noting that they have applied to two ministries for support.
Sayed’s younger brother, Abu Hossain, said, “The foundation will support the poor and help those injured in the July-August uprising.”
Yunus assured the family of his full support, adding that the interim government has instructed the police to expedite the investigation and ensure justice.
"Bangladesh will never forget Shaheed Abu Sayed and what he has done for the nation. His sacrifice played a big role in the mass uprising against the dictatorship," he said.
Yunus pledged to stand by the family, saying his doors will always remain open to them.
Abu Sayed, a student of English at Begum Rokeya University, was killed on Jul 16 during the anti-discrimination protests.
Following his death, his elder brother Ramzan filed a case with the Tajhat Police Station. The investigation is currently being handled by the Police Bureau of Investigation.
