He said, “Everyone, regardless of religion and caste, must work for the welfare of the country and the people. Bangladesh is a country of communal harmony and it is a unique example to the world. People of all creeds in this country have been practising their respective religions and rituals freely and with joy since ancient times.”
He said, “The bonds of communal harmony must be further strengthened to establish an equitable, corruption-free and justice-based state. Let a modern and developed Bangladesh be built through the efforts of everyone, regardless of race and religion. Let us move forward on the path of peace, welfare, and light.”
The president said that Christmas Day was the most important Christian festival, marking the birth of Jesus Christ.
He said Christ was the embodiment of peace and a guide towards the light.
In addition to connecting people to God, he preached the glory of God brought the world a message of peace and called a lost people to the path of truth and justice, Shahabuddin said.
If the teachings of Christ are reflected throughout one’s life, the path to peace will be a smooth one, he said.
“Jesus Christ always taught people to live in peace and establish love, service, forgiveness, and justice. Instead of worldly happiness, he urged his devotees to achieve spiritual happiness through sacrifice, restraint, and charity.”
“He advised his devotees to do what they think is best for all people. In the current global context, I believe that the teachings and ideals of Jesus Christ can make an important contribution to establishing peace in a war-torn world, including establishing unity among different ethnic groups.”
He said, “The main lesson of all religions is service and welfare of people. Let this be our expectation on this great day. Merry Christmas. May the Christian community bring unending joy and welfare to all. May everyone’s life be filled with happiness and prosperity.”
