A worrying rise in child deaths linked to measles-like symptoms continues at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, where three more children have died.

Hospital Assistant Director Md Mynuddin Khan said on Tuesday that the fatalities occurred during the 24 hours leading up to 9am.

The victims included two boys and one girl.

Among them was a 7-month-old from the district’s Gauripur, who was admitted on Apr 22 and passed away at 5pm on Monday.

An hour later, a 4-month-old from Jamalpur’s Madarganj, admitted on Apr 23, died.

The third victim, a 5-month-old from Netrokona’s Durgapur, died at 10:30pm on Monday night after being hospitalised since Apr 20.

One critically ill child has been referred to Dhaka Shishu Hospital.

Dr Mynuddin said 32 new children were admitted in the last 24 hours, while 74 remain in the isolation ward and 36 have recovered and been discharged.

Since Mar 17, the hospital has treated 925 children with measles-like symptoms.

Of them, 831 have been discharged after recovery, while the death toll has reached 20.
