Three children have died while bathing in a canal in Magura’s Mohammadpur Upazila.
Mohammadpur Police chief Abdur Rahman said mourning gripped the Chapatola village in Balidia Union on Saturday.
The children who lost their lives were 5-year-olds Tarin, Sinthia, and Tanha, all identified by single names.
A local named Abdul Hannan said the children went to take a bath in the Chapatola canal at 5pm on Saturday.
He said all three children could swim, but the canal’s strong currents and depth likely pulled them under.
Locals washing jute nearby pulled them out of the water and rushed them to Mohammadpur Upazila Health Complex, where Resident Medical Officer (RMO) Asadur Rahman declared them dead.
Officer Abdur said police were sent to the scene immediately after the incident.
