Of the 203 polling centres in Khagrachhari, 185 have been identified as “risky”, with 63 of them classified as “highly risky”, says the district’s Election Officer SM Shahadat Hossain.
The centres were identified based on observations by the police’s Special Branch (DSB).
“The Special Branch categorises polling centres as general, risky and highly risky. They have provided us with the list accordingly,” Shahadat said.
“We will take all necessary measures to ensure a peaceful election,” he added.
According to data from the Khagrachhari election office, the district has a total of 554,114 voters for the 13th general election.
Among them, 280,206 are male voters and 273,904 are female voters. There are also four third gender voters.
Khagrachhari Superintendent of Police (SP) Sayem Mirza Sayem Mahmud said polling centres are considered risky based on geographical position and centres where candidates would cast their own ballots.
“A designated number of law enforcing personnel will be deployed at each polling centre,” he said.
He added that additional forces will be deployed at highly risky centres, patrols will be intensified and intelligence surveillance will be increased.
