A BNP delegation has met US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs S Paul Kapur.

The meeting was held at the home of the US ambassador to Bangladesh in Gulshan on Thursday, according to Shairul Kabir Khan, a spokesman for the ruling party.

The delegation entered the residence at 11am and left at 11:50am.

The five-member group was led by BNP National Standing Committee Member Abdul Moyeen Khan.

The other representatives were Barrister Nawshad Jamir, Mahbubur Rahman, Nayab Yusuf and Nipun Roy Chowdhury.

After the meeting, Moyeen said: “It goes without saying that the United States, which wishes Bangladesh well, has cooperated with us in various ways in the past. Today, a new government has come, so they will naturally come here now to discuss what is happening in Bangladesh, what our policies are, what our future policies will be, and our mutual relations with various countries, especially with the United States."

Asked whether there was a discussion about the agreement signed with the United States, he said: "They (the United States) discussed this issue with the government. The government may have told you what they discussed and they will also tell you.

“The issues we discussed [on Thursday] are mainly issues of mutual relations between the people of the two countries and the policies of the government in the future."

"You know, we had an overall discussion on the various types of events in the world today. Today, we discussed the diplomatic relations of the United States with us, and their foreign and economic relations with us."
