A collision involving a truck, a motorcycle, and an autorickshaw has left two people dead and another critically injured in Faridpur Sadar Upazila.
The crash occurred near the Shibrampur bus stand along the Dhaka-Faridpur Highway around 9am on Sunday, said Md Salauddin Chowdhury, chief of Karimpur Highway Police Station.
The dead were identified as Nayan Sheikh, 24, a motorcycle driver from Chandpur village in Ishan Gopalpur Union, and Shajahan Sheikh, 52, a rickshaw driver from Madandia village in the same area.
Citing witnesses, OC Salauddin said the truck was transporting watermelons from Faridpur to Rajbari when it lost control and veered into the motorcycle and the autorickshaw.
Nayan died instantly while his mother, who was riding pillion, suffered severe injuries.
“Rickshaw driver Shajahan succumbed to his injuries on the way to Faridpur Medical College Hospital alongside Nayan’s mother,” said.
Police said legal action was underway over the incident.
The deaths of the two men, both from the same community, have cast a shadow of mourning over the area. Authorities said that traffic along the highway remained unaffected.
