A beheaded body of a young man has been recovered from a canal connected to the Kushiyara River in Sylhet’s Balaganj, with an Indian national ID card found in his pocket.

Balaganj police chief Farid Uddin Bhuiyan gave information about the recovery of the decomposed body of a 45-year-old man from the Upazila’s Purba Poilanpur Union on Thursday.

He said the Indian national ID card, numbered LSY90400099, belonged to Gaurang Ghosh. The body showed no visible injury marks, but was badly deformed.

Police said locals spotted the body and alerted police, who pulled the body out of the water. He died 10 to 12 days ago.

Officer Farid said the body has been sent to the Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical Hospital morgue for postmortem. Police are trying to identify the youth.
