Following the 'murder' of government lawyer Saiful Islam Alif during clashes near the court area in Chattogram, law-enforcing agencies have heightened vigilance across the city.
Joint forces have also launched operations to arrest those involved in the violence.
On Tuesday night, reports emerged of joint forces conducting searches in various parts of the city, including areas surrounding the road leading down from the hilltop court premises.
A tense atmosphere prevailed in areas near the Muslim High School Road, close to the court premises, where the lawyer was killed during the clashes.
However, under the strict surveillance of security agencies, the situation appeared calm.
Although the clashes subsided after the evening, protests by agitated students and locals erupted in various areas, demanding justice for the lawyer's death.
Despite those protests, both before and after the joint forces began their operations, no major new incidents were reported.
Speaking to bdnews24.com, Chattogram Metropolitan Police ADC (Public Relations) Tarek Aziz said: “Joint forces, including police, have launched operations to arrest those involved in the lawyer’s murder.”
Another CMP official confirmed that joint forces are conducting operations in different areas under Kotwali Police Station, with plans to extend operations to surrounding areas.
As of midnight, no arrests or detentions had been reported.
