The Bangladesh government has appointed two new prosecutors to the International Crimes Tribunal.
Prosecutor Md Saimum Reza Talukder, meanwhile, has resigned from his post.
In separate orders issued by the Solicitors Division of the Law and Justice Department of the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs on Monday, Advocates Marjina Raihan (Madina) and Mohammad Jahurul Amin have been appointed as new prosecutors with the equivalent rank of deputy attorney-general.
In another order, the resignation of Saimum Reza from the tribunal’s prosecution was accepted and he was relieved of his duties. He had been appointed to the post on Oct 7, 2024.
Regarding his resignation, Reza told bdnews24.com: "I will return to my old profession of teaching. I consider myself fortunate to be a part of the verdicts in important cases."
He also sent his regards to the incoming chief prosecutor.
"The new chief prosecutor is coming in. I hope he will handle the cases very well. I wish him all the best."
Reza is currently working as a senior lecturer at the BRAC University School of Law. He is also lawyer registered with the Bangladesh Bar Council and a member of the Dhaka District Bar Association.
He completed his LLB and LLM from Chittagong University and obtained a specialised master's degree in Law and Digital Technologies from Leiden University in the Netherlands.
