A Dhaka court has ordered a five-day remand for Enayet Karim Chowdhury, a Bangladesh-origin US citizen, following his detention for “suspicious roaming” in a car on Minto Road.

His associate, SM Golam Mostafa Azad, has also been sent into custody for questioning, for the same period.

The decision came after an application by Inspector Akhtar Morshed of the detective police Ramna zone. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sarah Farzana Haque approved the request on Wednesday.

Enayet was arrested by Ramna Model Police on Saturday around 10:30am, allegedly for suspicious activities.

Police later sought seven days to quiz Enayet in custody under Section 54 of the Criminal Procedure Code, and on Monday, Magistrate Dilruba Afroz Tithi ordered his detention in jail while scheduling a remand hearing.

Meanwhile, a terrorism case was filed against him, and he was arrested under this charge, leading to his two-day remand by the Detective Branch. On Wednesday, investigators asked for a further seven days, which was then reduced to five.
